AudioSpaces #6
June, July and August 2024. We've had a little break, but we're still here. Before the autumn hits, a big old mega-selection of our favourite AudioSpaces during this period.
Hi everyone. It’s been a while since we’ve last poked our heads up here on Substack—three months to be precise. This has partly been down to personal life goings-on, moving, work, and so on.
But also let’s be honest, it’s been summer—in some places round the world at least—and when it’s sunny our listening ears are probably at their best drinking Guinness or some other creamy deliciousness outside, rather than inside reading newsletters. One thing we’re interested in with AudioSpaces is readjusting our relationship to our screens, and sometimes it’s just good to have a little break. We’ve missed you, though, and hope you’ve had a joyful mid-year wherever you are.
As a brief catch up, here’s some favourite AudioSpaces from June, July and August to preview. Judging by everything you’ve all shared on the map during this period, there’s been a lot going on. Some of these are pretty funny, others are in extremely, fascinatingly specific locations, while others are just textured treats for the ears. It also sounds like, amongst other sonics, it’s been a musical few months for a lot of you. Very nice!
As always, if you find yourself nearby one of the pinned locations, go find it in real life and open your ears to all its full-length auditory glory.

What’s next?
I say it all the time, but we’re really damn pleased with the little ecosystem that’s formed around what we’re doing here—all your contributions to the map, our growing number of Collections, this newsletter, and all the lovely connections we’re making along the way.
We love how much you lot have taken on board the idea and ran with it in so many directions, carving out your own maps, building your own multiple audible archives, so many of which crossover and coincide in strange ways none of us had ever expected.
And if it ain’t broke, then it’s probably not worth fixing or changing anything just yet. As we go into our first autumn as a project, then, the idea is mostly to continue as we have been. Expect incremental app improvements, more commissioned Featured Collections, and these monthly round-ups here on Substack to keep everyone in the loop. Keep an eye out round town for our stickers, too.
One new thing we’ll be releasing very soon is a new communication channel for us to share things as they come in quicker succession, whether that’s small app tweaks or tips, resources, or any other announcements. It will also be a free space for you to give us live feedback, and for any discussions anyone might want to have about sounds, spaces, memories, listening, recording and the like. Soon come the next monthly round-up.
On the original articles front, in the next few months I’ll be posting as much as I can but probably with a bit less regularity than earlier in the year—at least until I finish my thesis (apparently this will happen). We’re still keen to get anyone who wants to write or create something for us involved, which can be any wide number of topics that fit into the themes of AudioSpaces, as with our amazing and varied previous guest articles. Let us know!
And yes, of course, an Android version is still a top priority. As always, keep posted here for any updates on this. Glad to have you here. Dylan x x
Thanks for adding my audio from Austria! And thanks for the app...
